Oral Surgical Care

What’s Classified as Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery is any surgical procedure that involves the mouth, jaw or face. Common situations where our oral surgeons recommend oral surgery include: wisdom teeth that are impacted or have erupted improperly, oral infections, or in preparation for advanced treatments, such as orthodontics or dental implant placement. Severe conditions like facial nerve repair, TMJ disorders, an oral cancer diagnosis and cyst removal, sleep apnea, and facial trauma may also be addressed through our surgical options.

Ensuring Your Comfort Throughout Your Care

Oral Surgery

At Parkside Dental Care, we understand that the extensive nature of oral surgery may cause you to feel hesitant. In addition to promoting an atmosphere of ease, we provide IV sedation dentistry to ensure you are as comfortable as possible, from the beginning stages of treatment until the very end.

Before scheduling your surgery, our specialists will review the details of your procedure and ensure that you thoroughly understand what to expect. For instance, if you're having all four wisdom teeth extracted, you’ll know that your surgery can last for one hour under sedation. Additionally, you can expect to be in a relaxed state during the procedure and have little to no recollection of the surgery afterward.

If you have been diagnosed with oral cancer and need a biopsy or cyst removal, you can expect to receive a general examination and an oral cancer screening, which our surgeons usually perform with a local anesthetic. Patients receiving dental implants or implant-supported dentures will undergo surgery that requires between six months to a year of healing before ceramic restorations can be placed successfully.

Regardless of what oral surgery procedure you receive at our Fairfield practice, we will help you become comfortable with your recommended treatment. Our surgeons will answer your questions and address your concerns in a caring manner so that you feel ready to take the next step toward better oral health. Even after your surgery, we will follow-up with you to make sure you are healing properly.

We also treat patients who are cognitively disabled and will work with parents or guardians to create a comprehensive treatment plan that encompasses their individual needs.
